The Future Hall of Korea University Guro Hospital is more than an expanded space. It is part of an infrastructure expansion project to reorganize the entire facility and system into a hospital specializing in severe diseases. The project was planned to take a leap into a specialized hospital for severe diseases to set the new face of Korea University Guro Hospital by organizing the treatment system with a focus on ‘patient’ and ‘disease.’ To differentiate it from the existing hospital image and to express the vision of ‘Practicing cutting-edge medicine that respects life,’ we applied the curtain wall outside and created an atrium space penetrating five floors. In the building, consisting of departments dealing with a high ratio of outpatients, it is easy to perceive space due to the atrium facing the front road. An open space where you can quickly feel the change of weather and season provides patients visiting for treatment with a healing experience offered by the space. We improved connectivity with the existing building and usability as a thorough strategy to efficiently develop the hospital located on a narrow site in the old town center of Guro-gu. The future-oriented vision pursued by Korea University Hospital was realized as a new and comfortable space.
