Gimhae International Airport Domestic Flights Parking Building

The Gimhae International Airport Domestic Flights Parking Building is the gateway and starting point to facilitate the use of the domestic passenger terminal for domestic travelers and business travelers using vehicles. The facade of the building was designed so that the feeling of waving waves is reflected in the overall exterior of the building to give the identity of Busan as the city of the sea. Through the diagonal arrangement of the exterior material (clay brick stacking in two layers), it was planned to show a face with a different expression every moment by creating shadows that change according to the passage of seasons and time. The project is the first building in Korea to apply non-structural seismic design using the 0.5B cross-stacking method. The existing domestic cross-stacking details were constructed only with mortar, making them vulnerable to earthquakes or typhoons in the future. However, the building is designed to withstand earthquakes and wind pressure (40m/s). Bricks are resistant to pollution and have a lower thermal conductivity than other materials, so it is an ecofriendly building that introduces natural light and ventilation as much as possible by opening 50% of the wall area. Since the inside can be seen from the outside, crime prevention was also considered. A resting courtyard (8×25m) was installed at the node of the circulation from the existing external parking lot and the new parking building to the passenger terminal to give a place where you can start a new journey after enjoying the traditional atmosphere of the garden rather than a parking building as a function to pass through.
